WHERE
![[ Sign to Glen of Imaal ]](images/i-sign1.jpg) |
If you go all the way to Ireland in search of this breed, don't miss the beautiful
Glen it was named after. You will need to rent a car. The Glen of Imaal is in the western
slopes of the Wicklow Mountains, off N81 between Baltinglass and Hollywood. Take the road
towards Donard or Davidstown, both will lead you into the Glen of Imaal. |
![[ The Glen ]](images/i-glen.jpg)
This is just one view of the beautiful Glen of Imaal. Home to about 200 or 300
villagers, the Glen supports active sheep farming and timber industries. It is also
steeped in history, as a visit to the Dwyer-MacAllister Cottage will show. Stop in at the
general store and Post Office in Knockanarrigan in the middle of the Glen of Imaal if you
need to ask directions.
There is an army artillery range occupying about 1000 acres on an eastern mountainside
of the Glen of Imaal, but it is well marked with warning signs, so if you heed them you
will be in no danger of stepping on a live artillery shell during your visit.
If you want to stay overnight in the Glen of Imaal, you can do so at the Ballinclea
Youth Hostel. ![[ Youth Hostel Sign ]](images/i-shsign.jpg)
